What Is Dermaplaning? Discover the Secret to Smoother Skin
Dermaplaning is a manual exfoliation that is mainly done on the face. This method removes the outermost layer of dead skin cells along with excess hair on it and makes the skin smooth, soft, fresh, healthy and younger. Dermaplaning also stimulates the production of new, youthful skin cells while helping your skin breathe more easily. Active ingredients in skin care products can penetrate deeper layers, resulting in healthier skin.
Dermaplaning is wonderful for exfoliating the skin and for those that have peach fuzz on their face. It removes this along with dead skin cells, resulting in healthier looking skin. This treatment is great for someone who has sensitive skin or facial hair that does not respond to laser hair removal.
This is a great treatment for women who are pregnant or nursing because there are no chemicals to worry about.
It is a comfortable, relaxing procedure that can be combined with other services to improve their efficacy.
How to prepare for Dermaplaning? What to do before the procedure?
1. Book a consultation
This is crucial if you are receiving this treatment for the first time.
Consultations allow the Esthetician to evaluate your skin and determine whether you are a candidate for the treatment or whether another treatment would be more beneficial
2. Discontinue any manual or physical exfoliation at least 3-5 days prior.
Exfoliating the uppermost layers of skin to remove dead skin cells, dull and dry skin, and vellus facial hair is the essence of dermaplaning.
To avoid skin damage from over-exfoliation, stop using any products that contain ingredients that slough off skin cells. AHAs, BHAs, enzymes, micro-beads, and retinoids are examples of such ingredients (due to products you use, skin situation you might have, waiting period may be different from 3 to 14 days and consultation is needed).
3. Avoid sun exposure for 5-7 days prior to the service.
Sun exposure (in moderation) is required to produce adequate levels of Vitamin D, which absorbs calcium and aids in bone formation.
Sun exposure, on the other hand, can increase skin sensitivity, so avoid it before your treatment.
You must wait 14 days if you are red or burned before receiving treatment. If you arrive in such a state, your Esthetician will reschedule your appointment and you may be charged a fee.
4. Do not schedule Botox or facial filler prior to dermaplaning.
5. Schedule your waxing services 1-2 weeks before dermaplaning.
