Is Clean Beauty Important

We come to know yet if "Clean Beauty" is important or not. Let's look at what that means first.

What is Clean Beauty?

"Clean beauty" is a largely unregulated term created by consumers and companies seeking a choice in response to the beauty industry's limited regulation. In general, clean beauty products are those that are free of ingredients that have been shown or are suspected of causing harm to human health.

In some industries, clean beauty means never sacrificing health for the sake of results. They are dedicated to creating safe, clean products that deliver real results and are free of ingredients linked to negative health effects such as hormone disruption, cancer, and skin irritation. They also care about the environment as a whole, prioritizing ingredients that are ethically sourced, nonanimal in origin, and cruelty-free; we use sustainable or renewable biobased sources whenever possible. Furthermore, they prioritize ingredients that are biodegradable, nonpermanent in the environment, and do not accumulate in animals. These ingredients are tested for non-GMO feedstock and pesticide residues. And each ingredient in these formulas serves a purpose.

Clean beauty must also be luxurious, high-performance, and all-around enchanting, whether it's a shampoo you use every day, a youth-boosting supercream that leaves your skin glowing, or a lip color you save for special occasions. There's no reason for conventional beauty companies to continue making products with potentially harmful ingredients now that clean tech has advanced to that level.

While it's difficult to believe that traditional beauty companies would ever include such ingredients in their products, the truth is that they do—still it's common practice and completely legal. To give you an idea of where we are, consider that there are 11 cosmetic ingredients currently banned by the FDA, while in the EU, over 1,300 ingredients are banned (critics of this statistic say that some of the 1,300 banned ingredients are rare in cosmetic or personal-care products). Companies operating in the United States face far fewer stringent regulations than companies operating in the European Union, so US companies continue to pack potentially harmful ingredients into products we use every day (mascara, face wash, conditioner, and more) that can include known carcinogens, irritants, and endocrine disruptors.

Expressing other words related to "Clean Skincare" and How They are Used on Products

When it comes to beauty products, the FDA has yet to regulate how brands can use terms like Clean, Organic, and Cruelty-free. Definitions are subjective and frequently change from company to company and package to package, making it nearly impossible to distinguish the truth from greenwashing. Here, we deconstruct the most common buzzwords to provide some much-needed clarity.

WHAT DOES CLEAN MEAN?

Clean means that a beauty product has taken human and environmental health into account, using a nontoxic element as a baseline and plant-based ingredients for active results. Clean skin care, like eating clean, rejects the idea of processed foods in favor of nourishing, plant-based produce that provides all the vitamins and antioxidants required for a healthy immune and digestive system.

WHAT DOES GREEN MEAN?

The term "green" should indicate that the product is not harmful to the environment. A reef-safe sunscreen with biodegradable packaging, for example, would be labeled green. However, this is a hazy term with no clear definition, and it is commonly used as an umbrella term for any product that claims to protect the planet's resources.

WHAT DOES ORGANIC MEAN?

Personal care products that are at least 95% organic will bear the official USDA Organic Seal. Products bearing the USDA Organic Seal must also comply with handling and manufacturing specifications, and the use of genetically modified organisms is prohibited. To avoid pesticides, the clean beauty industry has begun to incorporate organic, plant-based ingredients into products wherever possible. However, because certification is costly, many smaller brands will independently label organic ingredients on packaging, even if they do not carry an official seal.

WHAT DOES NONTOXIC MEAN?

In the wrong dose, water and oxygen can be toxic. When a beauty product is labeled nontoxic, it is likely that the ingredients have not been shown to cause adverse health effects at the levels found in the formula and for the intended use. This is true for every beauty product sold in the United States today. Nontoxic in the clean beauty industry means that a product should not contain any ingredient that has been deemed toxic at any dose by a third-party resource such as the European Union or the Environmental Working Group.

WHAT DOES SUSTAINABLE MEAN?

Green and sustainable go hand in hand. It means that the ingredients inside the package, as well as how those ingredients were sourced, and the packaging itself should be environmentally friendly. When you use any product, the ingredients go down the drain and into the water system, which, thanks to exfoliating microbeads and preservatives like BHA, is causing a marine environment health crisis. Similarly, many conventional beauty products are made from petroleum jelly and packaged in plastic, both of which are byproducts of the oil industry. Truly sustainable ingredients are ethically sourced and proven to be environmentally safe, with no-waste packaging defined as glass packaging, biodegradable packaging, post-consumer recycled packaging, or the ability to recycle empty bottles appropriately through a TerraCycle program.

WHAT DOES VEGAN MEAN?

A vegan beauty product contains no animal by-products or ingredients derived from animals. Beeswax, honey, lanolin, and tallow are common non-vegan ingredients found in clean beauty products. Many people associate veganism with cleanliness, but this is not true. A product can be vegan while still containing questionable chemical ingredients.

WHAT DOES CRUELTY-FREE MEAN?

A cruelty-free beauty product has not been tested on animals at any point in the manufacturing process or before it is sold. It may also imply that any animal-derived ingredients were not obtained at the expense of the welfare of an animal (like natural-fiber makeup brushes). A cruelty-free beauty product may not be vegan, and vice versa.

Why is Clean Beauty important? Why should I care about single drop or small doses add up of chemical product?

Not all chemicals are bad. But about toxic ones, a single exposure is unlikely to cause serious harm, but over time, small doses add up. The lipstick we wear, the food we eat, and the soap we use often contain harmful chemicals can enter our bodies, hide away in our bones or fat, and build up over time. To make matters even more complicated, some chemicals can be more harmful in combination with other chemicals. The impacts of these chemicals may not be apparent for years.
